New indie-comic-style paintings posted

I've posted the first set of the new style, replete with real-camera-not-a-phone-camera images, to my website. I'm currently calling this style 'indie-comic-style', as opposed to my customary blobby-paint-style, seen here:

It's kind of a hybrid painting/drawing style, and it reminds me a lot of the indie comics I used to read and pick up at the indie comic shows that I used to do, which is why I'm calling it what I'm calling it. I never inked my comics like that, though, and as I mentioned in a previous post, I really wish I'd learned to ink like that. Much faster and more fun.Oh well, I'm a bit slow sometimes.

I'm not going to abandon the blobby-paint-style, as there's just too much one can do with that, but I'd also like to keep exploring what I can do with the indie-comic-style paintings. I just hope that they sell well enough to justify the effort.

cheers,
Marcel

Inner comic book artist revealed. .

Trees, roads, lonely little lakes:

This pair mean that I'm all done my first set of drawy-paintings / painty drawings. I still have no idea what to call them, as they're kind of a hybrid. Really what they are is indie-comic style wall panel art. I think my past as an indie comic creator is coming out more and more.

Now I just have to figure out how to price them. :-/

Pricing is one of the more vexing aspects of being an artist/one person business. I'd like to make them available at a more accessible price point than my full colour blobby paintings, so I'm thinking maybe $500 for a 20x24 and $650 for a 22x30. I should really hear what the galleries say about them though, since they're the ones who would be selling them.

Marcel

I wish I 'inked' like this when I did comics

Here's another new painting. I'm having a lot of fun with this stripped down format. It's a lot like inking comics. Or like I wished I had done them when I was still doing them, instead of what I did do with tiny little brushes and pens and getting way too tight with the drawing.

Ah well, the hindsight of old age and feeble-tude.

A non-categorized artifact with canoe

Not really sure what to call this style. Is it a painting? Is it a drawing? A scribbly doo-dad?

In any case, enjoy!

Mining town

Here's a new landscape in the drawing/painting style. This one's a bit bigger at 22x30.

New Dock Diver

Who knows if this new drawing/painting style that I'm working is going to be worth the effort? I'm liking the results so far, so I think it's got a chance, but it's both a creative and product development process at the same time, so you never know until you get it in front of people. This one's 20x24:

Red umbrella, little red house

Holy crap! New paintings!

It's been busy at the day job, and I feel like I've been away from the studio for far too long.

Here are a couple of new small experimental paintings I just finished.

Marcel
