Web site maintenance finally finished!

Super defender of the universe (detail)

Now I can finally get back to painting! (Woo!)
I've been working on the site over the summer, and I believe it's much improved, especially for browsing through the paintings.

• It's now responsive/mobile friendly
• I shrunk the header/navigation area so there's more screen space for the images
• I added close-up / detail photos to some of the paintings, so you can get a better idea of the texture of the pieces. ( see image above )

This one will be going to my show in Toronto for the month if March. Glad it's finally finished, It took a lot longer than I thought it would. No title yet, I'll have to think of that next week.

New coastal painting in progess

I'm happy to be back painting again working the rust out. This one's going to be in my Ottawa show in June, which will be at Wall Space Gallery. This is the underpainting stage.

Parka people - finished

This will be part of my show in Toronto in January. It's 40"x60" so it's on the larger side.

Now I have time to paint one more large piece. But i have to figure out what to do first. Figuring out what to paint next is always fraught with anxiety because you have to commit to an idea and hope it works out.

boreal skies

I've posted a proper photo of my latest landscape painting, called 'boreal skies'. It's my first try at 40"x60", which feels pretty freakin big! I really enjoyed having so much space to pile the paint onto, so I hope I sell some of these big ones so I can keep doing more of them.

The eyes had me really wound up. I find Reflective surfaces extra hard. I think they're ok:

Cityscape

I'm working on a new cityscape painting. It's looking like its going to be fairly complicated, so I probably won't do it all in one shot. These kjnds of paintings are great when they're done, but they often take so long that I try to keep myself from doing too many of them.

More of the blobby paint phase. The sky and clouds are done, and the town gets some colour. Getting closer and closer to finishing this one. This one's going very well, but when I add so many elements to it (house, people, town, landscape, stupid bramble-y bushes) it takes a long time. Maybe for my next ones I'll try to do dead simple landscapes or something.

There's a saying in software development - KISS - Keep it Simple Stupid.

I think it holds for art too. Of course, what do I go and do? Add a bramble-y bush into the foreground of this painting. The painting's going well, but boy am I stupid!
