Painty painty - next phase of experimentals

Close up of my plan for world domination, er, I mean of my latest painting experiment. There are still a few additions I want to try out with this, but this layer of paint needs to dry first. There are also a bunch of little things that I'm not entirely happy with, but overall though, it's getting to where I want it, which makes it a successful experiment.

Painting experiments today

I'm trying to find a drawing style that I can glaze over with oil colour.




I'm narrowing it down to ink markers or traditional India ink.

I really like this pencil drawing though, so I'm not going to ink it or colour over it. Maybe I'll do it digitally later:

Painting resumes / another show on the horizon

After doing a lot of doodles and admin stuff, I'm now working on a new painting for my Ottawa show in June. It hasn't been that long since was painting, actually, but I'm still feeling kind of rusty. Hoping to work that out quickly...

Now I have time to paint one more large piece. But i have to figure out what to do first. Figuring out what to paint next is always fraught with anxiety because you have to commit to an idea and hope it works out.

The eyes had me really wound up. I find Reflective surfaces extra hard. I think they're ok:

Big city dreams / robot cityscape

Finished, finally! Although this took a lot longer than most of my paintings do ( I really don't want to think what my $/hr rate is on this one :-/ ) I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I think I pushed my limits, which is a good thing to do once in while.
