Cityscape

I'm working on a new cityscape painting. It's looking like its going to be fairly complicated, so I probably won't do it all in one shot. These kjnds of paintings are great when they're done, but they often take so long that I try to keep myself from doing too many of them.

Meandering Education

Anise Shaw, who I follow on Google+, posted a great comment about general/liberal arts education, and that quote makes me feel a little less loser-ish for taking 10 years and 4 schools to get my BSc, and 15 years in total to figure out what kind of career I wanted to have. I basically meandered for a long time, learning a lot of different and disparate things. Although I wish I had figured it out sooner and accelerated my art career more, my art would not be nearly as good or nearly as interesting if I hadn't meandered so much and had so many false starts.

Figuring out my next set of paintings. Here are some of the sketches so far.

Return of the large ungulate! And its robot.

Here's a new robot indie-comic-style painting I finished on Saturday. (The ungulate, an elk/reindeer/moose pictogram thing ) first appeared in the painting with the robot with the toboggan.)

I'm using that style as a kind of a warm up for getting back into painting. Also, it works well for translating my thumbnail doodles into paintings.

Rocky shore red balloon

Here's the finished version. Have a great weekend everyone!

Indie-comic-style red balloon

Another one of the indie-comic-style-paintings I'm working on as a warm up as I get back into painting after a too-short baby hiatus.

Note: I'm trying out a photo editor on my phone to see if I can overcome the much too dark images from the phone's camera.

Back in the studio

We welcomed a new baby girl into my family a couple of weeks ago. (hooray!) She's doing very well and we're basically settled in now. Well, as settled in as you can be with a newborn and a two year old. (yikes)

It's the end of my two weeks off now, so I have to get back to work. I'm warming up by doing a few indie-comic-style paintings.
